Chemical exfoliants work by eating away at dead skin cells and sebum to reveal clear, smooth skin.
AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) are water-soluble. Consistent use will help to:
- Brighten hyperpigmentation
- Minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Smooth texture
BHAs (beta-hydroxy acids) are oil-soluble. Consistent use will help to:
- Minimize the appearance of pores
- Reduce breakouts
Many of the products we sell are combinations of both AHAs and BHAs. Low percentages of chemical exfoliants will pair with other active ingredients but stick to just one active per morning/night if you have sensitive skin.
Chemical exfoliants are generally suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin that can't tolerate a physical exfoliant. To err on the side of caution, sensitive folks should always patch tests before application.
A little redness post-application is completely normal and will dissipate shortly.
Chemical exfoliants will make your skin more photo-sensitive, so always be sure to wear an SPF during the day.
