Historically, I have never embraced the notion of an "In Flight" beauty routine because I typically check my luggage and accept that I'm going to look pretty haggard when I arrive at my destination.

This past weekend I went to Toronto for 48 hours to visit my friend Siena. Since it was such a quick trip I decided to stick to bringing just a carry-on, which was great because it meant all my skincare would be with me. I was scheduled to arrive mid-afternoon and wanted to hit the ground running, so I thought I should try to look at least somewhat presentable when I got off the plane.

My flight landed at 2:30 and I was booked to get my makeup done at 4:30 by Estelle at Lac + Beauty (my fave! more on this spot in a later post) so I had four hours to get my skin ready for makeup.

I never wear makeup on the plane but if you do, I would recommend you take it off with a makeup wipe as soon as you get to your seat. I also sprayed my hands, the seat and the tray down with Jao Hand Refresher because, as we all know, planes are dirty.

I started with a Hyaluronic Sheet Mask from Magicstripes. I recently bought products from this line for the store in anticipation of the holiday season and I had never tried this particular mask before. I love Hyaluronic Acid for its moisturizing properties but I also love it because it can help to soothe inflammation, which is something to consider when you're spending 4+ hours inside a metal tube filled with recirculated air and germs, suspended thirty-six thousand feet above the ground. If anything is going to make you feel puffy, dry, and inflamed, it is probably an airplane. This mask was so, so nice. After leaving it on for 20 minutes, my skin felt bouncy and supple. Sheet masks often make me break out and I was spot-free all weekend.

I followed up with the new Magicstripes  eye gels. I love the KNC Star Eye Gels as well, but I hadn't tried these ones yet so I thought I would give them a go. These instantly calmed and brightened my puffy under eyes. I paired them with a KNC lip mask to combat my perma-chapped lips.

Much to the horror of the men sitting next to me, I wore these masks for around 40 minutes or, about the time it took me to listen to a podcast and take a bunch of selfies. After removing them, I applied some Dr. Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum, Dr. Barbara Sturm Eye Cream, a layer of the Summer Fridays Jetlag Mask, Glossier Balm Dot Com on my lips, and plenty of hand cream.

Overall, I'd say that I looked less shitty when I touched down at Pearson Airport than I would have if I hadn't spent almost a quarter of my flight applying various potions to my face in public. Next time I travel, if I have somewhere to be as soon as I get off the plane, I will definitely repeat this little ritual. At the very least, it's a great way to kill some time.

https://indiarose.ca/blogs/news/four-ways-to-change-up-your-skincare-regimen-for-colder-months 2018-10-09T12:48:00-07:00 2018-10-09T12:48:10-07:00 Four Ways to Change Up Your Skincare Regimen for Colder Months India Daykin

The change in seasons can make everyone’s skin a little funky, especially when we transition into fall and winter. Here are some easy tips to help keep your skin feeling dewy and glorious for the rest of the year and onward.

Swap Out Your Moisturizer for Something a Little Richer

The face lotion you’ve been using all summer might just not be cutting it come fall. I would reach for something that feels a little thicker. If you want to keep things lightweight for daytime, try using a richer cream at night.

My favourite options are the Cosmetics 27 Baume 27 or the Dr. Barbara Sturm Face Cream Rich.

Wash Your Face Less

I know, this might seem counter-intuitive but trust me. In the summer, we sweat more and we wear more sunscreen, which means that our skin benefits from more of a scrub. In the fall and winter, we simply don’t need to be as hardcore with our cleansing. In addition to this, cleansing too much can upset the delicate balance of the skin’s microbiome. Preserving all that good bacteria living on the epidermis means that your skin’s hydration levels will stay more balanced.

I like to use a cream or balm cleanser every evening. My favourites are the Kypris Cleanser Concentrate, the Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm or the Cosmetics 27 Cleanser 27.

Add an Oil Into Your Regimen.

There’s so much talk about face oils and I feel like by now, most people have accepted that they’re a good thing. If you don’t already use a face oil, try adding a few drops into your moisturizer to beef it up, or a few drops on top of your serum and moisturizer to lock all that hydration in.

We sell a bunch of fantastic face oils at a variety of price points. Right now I’m using Agent Nateur Holi(Oil) but I can safely say I love each and every one that we sell.

Don’t Skip Out of Sunscreen.

In the winter months, I feel less inclined to reach for my tinted sunscreen. I know this is stupid because I should be wearing sunscreen all year round. Enter: Ilia Radiant Translucent Powder. This powder has a built-in brush and the products itself is completely sheer. The SPF 20 protects your skin from the winter sun without feeling like you’re blocking out all of that vitamin D. A little dusting on top of your makeup and you’re good to go. Toss it in your handbag and reapply with ease throughout the day.

Hello, I’m back with my quarterly blog post. Today we’re going to talk about my favourite things for fall (ground-breaking!). Here’s the vibe: lots of moisture and nice autumnal lip shade. Easy. Now go layer on some hyaluronic acid, eat a big bowl of pasta, and start a new series on Netflix. If you’re feeling wild and the weather is a crisp, moderate temperature, go for a brisk walk. Embrace this season because before you know it, Christmas will be here.

Dr. Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum
In my opinion, this is the best hyaluronic acid on the market. Not only does it layer seamlessly under any existing skincare products in your regimen, but it also provides vital hydration without adding any thick feeling on the skin. Hyaluronic Acid holds one thousand times its weight in water, which is the product equivalent of your skin getting the eight glasses a day it deserves (you should still drink water, though). The majority of people require more moisture in the colder months, but layering on thick creams and oil runs the risk of turning you into a total greaseball. This quenches the skin at its deepest layer and leaves you feeling plump and hydrated.
Kosas Tinted Face Oil
This is the kind of product that is so simple that you’re left wondering why it doesn’t already exist. This can be considered a skincare and makeup product combined into one, but I like to think of it as a foundation without any of the unnecessary filler. Apply it like a serum by spreading a couple of drops across your face with your fingers. What I love about this lightweight foundation is the surprising amount of coverage it provides. At first glance, it looks and feels like the Glossier Skin Tint (read: very sheer), but upon closer inspection, it provides a very solid medium-level of coverage that still looks like real skin. It comes in 10 shades to match 30+ skin tones.

Ilia Colour Block Lipsticks
I’ve always loved Ilia lip colours but now I really, really do. These newly reformulated lipsticks are hydrating and pigmented. You can dab them on with your fingers for a light, long-lasting kiss or colour or apply straight from the tube for a high-powered pout. There’s something about fall that makes me want to wear a fun lip every day. Lucky for me— and unlucky for my wallet— I love all twelve beautiful shades. I swear there are at least three colours that suit everyone, if not more.

Agent Nateur Body Oil
It’s time to start treating the skin on our bodies as well as we treat the skin on our faces. This oil is similar in formula to Agent’s amazing face oil, but for the body. It can help with eczema, cellulite and, of course, hydration. Best yet, it comes in a nice big bottle so you don’t have to worry about whether or not you can use it every day. I apply it every night straight out of the shower, while my skin is still damp and man, do my legs ever feel nice when I climb into bed. With consistent use, I’ve noticed an improved texture and tone of my limbs.
RMS Lip Liner
I’m a really big fan of lip liner as an easy, daily lipstick. These ones come in three shades: Daytime Nude, Nighttime Nude, and Red. Three classics for any makeup wardrobe. These layer well under lipsticks but I like colouring in my entire lip, slapping on some lip balm and calling it a day. I’m not a big red person, but these two nudes are colours I reach for every day.

https://indiarose.ca/blogs/news/spring-beauty-picks-to-help-you-shake-off-winter 2018-10-09T12:28:00-07:00 2018-10-09T12:28:33-07:00 Spring Beauty Picks to Help You Shake Off Winter India Daykin

Although it might not feel like it yet, today officially marks the first day of Spring. Before you know it, you’ll be able to ditch your puffy coat and sweater in favor of lighter layers and some much-needed vitamin D.

It’s important to pay special attention to your skin and personal care products with each new season since the change in weather can confuse the hell out of your skin and even your hair.

Here are some products to help you shake off winter and feel great:

Christophe Robin Purifying Shampoo and Salt Scrub
I don’t know about you, but all winter long I suffer from a seriously flaky scalp. There’s something about the cold— and in Vancouver’s case the dampness— along with the indoor heating that makes my head itchy and unhappy.
The Salt Scrub is a classic Christophe product that everyone loves. Use it once a week by applying a dime-sized amount to very wet hair and working it into the scalp until you get a nice lather going. This product helps to ensure that the flakes on your head are left behind with the actual snowflakes.
If you need more consistent maintenance, the Purifying Shampoo with Jujube Bark Extract regulates sebum production eliminates dandruff and leaves hair feeling light, shiny and most importantly, flake-free.
I like to use the scrub once or twice a week and the shampoo any other time I wash my hair.
Once you’re flake-free, why not try out the new Aloe Vera collection? The line is comprised of two hydrating shampoos (one is solid— perfect for travel!) and a hydrating mist. This collection is the most natural of his product line, and is gentle enough for daily use that won’t strip the hair of its natural oils.

Joanna Vargas Daily Serum
Joanna’s line is as effective as the packaging is beautiful. Her sheet masks will induce an enviable glow onto even the most parched winter skin, which makes them an excellent addition to your getting ready routine before a big event. However, if you’re looking for a daily treatment to help wage the perpetual war against dull skin, look no further than her Daily Serum
Joanna Vargas is a firm believer in the consumption of a daily green juice to keep the body looking and feeling good. Unfortunately, not all of us have the time to cold press a juice every morning— or the access to a store bought concoction. Lucky for us, the Daily Serum is Joanna’s answer. A topical green juice, if you will. This potent blend of antioxidants and Vitamins A, E, C, and F act as a defense against free radicals that can damage skin cells and, to put it bluntly, make you look old and dehydrated. The formula’s Hyaluronic Acid acts as a big drink of water for your complexion.
This serum yields glowing, firm, lifted skin. The kind that will make you want to go makeup-free. So ditch the green juice and put this on your face instead. Just kidding, don’t ditch the green juice, that stuff is good for you, but so is this serum.

Kypris Beauty Elixirs
If you’ve shopped at IRC before, you’ve probably been preached the wonders of Kypris’ legendary Antioxidant Dew Serum, but for today let’s shift our focus from their serums to their equally amazing face oils.
Kypris Beauty Elixirs are the perfect compliment to their water-based serums— the water-based serums penetrate deeply into the skin and the oils lock in their moisture. These oils are also beautiful on their own, or as a compliment to your existing routine.
With three different formulations, there is one for every skin type. Elixir #1— 1000 Roses, is the richest of the three, with the oil from one thousand Bulgarian roses in every full-sized bottle. Elixir #2— Healing Bouquet, falls in the middle on the hydration spectrum, which makes it the best choice for combination skin types. Elixir #3— Healing Bouquet, is formulated without essential oils, which means that even the most sensitive skin can use it.
All three Elixirs target fine lines, sun damage, pigmentation and skin texture. A little goes a long way, too. Apply a couple of drops to your skin morning and night and relish in the dewy feeling.
Sun Potion Green Adaptogen
We’ve talked about the green juice for your face, but we should still talk about greens for your body. Beauty from the inside out is a real thing. If you want glowing skin and great hair for Spring, it’s important to take a peek under the hood.
Sun Potion’s Green Adaptogen is a blend of three adaptogens: Suma, Maca, and Chlorella.
Suma is a Brazilian root that is known in South America as a natural cure-all for all sorts of ailments. It helps the body deal with stress while supporting the immune system. It is a natural source of electrolytes, which makes it a great supplement for athletes. It is also known to help regulate blood sugar and pressure. It is rich in amino acids and trace elements such as iron, magnesium, silica, and zinc. Basically, this is a super-powered root.
Maca is a Peruvian root that is rich in vitamin b12 (great if you’re vegan!) and protein (also great if you’re vegan!). Maca helps with energy and endurance levels. It also boosts the libido, if you’re looking for that sort of thing. It is also a great choice for anyone who suffers from PMS symptoms.
Chlorella is an algae that contains 10% chlorophyll and 50% protein, along with essential fatty acids. It may support the gentle detoxification of heavy metals. It is a potent antioxidant that is going to keep you looking and feeling young.
Overall, this is a nice little blend that can be added into juices or smoothies for a boost in nutrition and antioxidants. Consider it a natural alternative to a vitamin that will help you achieve dewy skin nirvana.

Kjaer Weis Highlighter, Blush and Lip Tint
To me, there is nothing more spring-y than dewy skin and a fresh pop of colour. Kjaer Weis has two highlighters— a warm tone and a cool tone. They are universally flattering so personally, I think it’s totally up to you which one you wear.
Next, add a little colour to your cheeks. I tend to reach for “Blossoming” or “Happy”. Trust me on this one— the colours may look daunting at first glance, but they blend out into sheer, healthy washes of colour that even the most novice makeup wearers can pull off.
Finally, ditch your wintery berry-coloured lips in favour of a sheer coral or pink. These lip tints apply like a lip balm, which means they require very little effort and most importantly, no mirror. I like “Bliss Full” for fair complexions and “Rapture” for everyone else.
Cire Trudon Candle in Proletaire
This candle smells like fresh lily of the valley which, in case you didn’t know, is the “birth flower” of the month of May (I’m born in May, duh). In general, though, this scent just screams “Spring”, without the associated seasonal allergies. So even if it might not feel like Spring where you are (hey east coasters, I see you with your snow), lighting this candle will give you hope that warmer weather is on the horizon.
That’s it Get out there, shed your dry, sun-deprived winter skin and get glowin’.

Summer is here. Well, actually it’s been here for a little bit but the weather has been kind of funky so forgive me for being late to the party…slash, in general. Regardless, the blog portion of indiarose.ca has been off to a slow start and I apologize.
Summer, for me, is a bit hectic and I imagine it is for a lot of you as well. Maybe it’s because I hibernate in the winter long, or maybe it’s just because everything feels nicer in the sunshine, including people, but for some reason I seem to be far busier in the months between June and August than I ever am the rest of the year.
I tend to eat healthier on a daily basis in the summer since the weather makes salads and fresh produce far more palatable, especially when it comes from a local farmer’s market. However, there’s a plethora of ~free radicals~ out there to try to throw a wrench in my plans to age very, very slowly. Namely, the sun, iced coffees the size of my head and endless alcoholic patio beverages.
Now don’t get me wrong— I’m not saying we should avoid any of these things. This season is a glorious one and we should take advantage of all that comes with it. All I’m saying is that all this sunny fun will be over soon enough and I don’t want anyone rolling into September— which is the true start of a new year, let’s be real— feeling parched, sunburnt and permanently hangover.
Here are some products that make me look and feel like I haven’t just spent the day drinking in a park in direct sunlight.

Sure, these all-natural lip and eye masks make for a fun selfie, but they also happen to work really well. These babies make your lips feel plump and hydrated and your eyes look firm and rested. I like to put them on before a big or after a big night out.
If you haven’t yet embraced sunscreen…it’s time to do so. If you live in the PNW like I do, I get having reservations about wearing SPF all year long considering that vitamin D an feel like a precious resource in these parts. But for peak summer months, come on! There’s no disputing that it’s a necessary thing.
You can choose between a chemical and a physical sunscreen. Chemical gets absorbed by the skin whereas physical sits on top of you to block the skin. I’m pretty sure most doctors will say that either is better than nothing, but physical is superior at protecting your body’s largest organ from our solar system’s hottest star.
Suntegrity is a super clean, physical formula that provides excellent protection. I like the tinted version because it has the same amount of coverage as a BB or CC cream, which is pretty much perfect for everyday summer makeup. Some zinc-based physical sunscreens can feel chalky or leave a white cast but this formula doesn’t.
A pump or two will cover your entire face and neck, but if you want more makeup coverage, you can mix it into your existing foundation.

On Instagram, I described this serum as a glass of wine and a bubble bath for your face. You could also call it Xanax for your face. Whatever tickles your fancy. This concentrated serum uses a cocktail of soothing plant-based ingredients to provide relief to inflamed skin, which can be caused by things like poor less, sun exposure and air travel. Sounds like summer, right?
Dr. Sturm advises you to layer your serums from clear to milky and then to follow with your moisturizer. Obviously, you can use this baby on your own, but if you’re using something else like a vitamin C serum be sure to put that on before the Calming Serum.
I’ve been using this product, along with pretty much the entire Dr. Stürm line for the past few weeks and my skin and I are so happy. The Calming Serum is easy to incorporate into any existing skincare regimen since the goal of this product is to not irritate your skin. You have to be careful when you’re layering serums with high levels of active ingredients, like acids or vitamin C serums, but this guy works well with pretty much everyone. That being said, if you’ve been playing around with a few too many active ingredients and you feel like you’re skin is angry and irritated as a result, consider taking a break from them and using only this serum for a while
This “lotion” might seem ambiguous in its use but believe me, it is very special. First things first, this isn’t a toner, nor is it a face cream. It’s not a serum either. You use it at the same time that you would use an essence, but it’s not an essence. Are you following? Cleanse your face, apply your toner if that’s something that you do, apply this lotion, and then follow with the rest of your serums and moisturizers.
“But why India? Why do I use such a thing?”
This lotion is meant to be used in combination with sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun’s heat. Now, don’t get confused, this ISN’T a sunscreen. This is sunscreen’s soul mate. It soothes the skin and fights free radicals while regulating its temperature preventing hyperpigmentation.
Get it?
Despite not wanting to be sunburnt, I love the look of a little sunburn. These colours make me look like I’ve been spending time out on a boat off the sunshine coast when in actuality, I’ve been hanging out at my desk. Apply the blush across your cheeks and the bridge of your nose. I feel like this lip colour is the perfect compliment to that kind of look. It’s red, but washed out, like after you applied it you went and drank Aperol spritzes on a lounge chair all afternoon and then took a dunk in the ocean before dinner. Top the liner with a little bit of this gloss if you want to add some shine.
Okay, everyone, these are my faves for the remaining months of sunshine. If you see me out on a patio, be sure to say hi.

ANTIOXIDANT DEW

Damn what can't I say about Antioxidant dew? This was the very first product I scooped up when I started working here at IRC and it still may possibly be my favourite product we sell. The versatility of this feather light serum still amazes me every time I lather it on (day and night and basically any other time in between) This magic goo is free of essential oils, it's meant to target free radicals and inflammation, making it an amazing product for sensitive skin in need of some serious hydration and a supple glow. I want to bless the whole world with this stuff!
GOE OIL:
Maaan, it seems like everyone who smells this stuff instantly falls in love with it. Not only does the mix of monoi and jojoba oil smell like a nostalgic beach day, this balm that quickly turns to oil melts into the skin so fast, it leaves you hydrated without the sticky greasy feeling. Although a little goes a long way, I like to generously lather this stuff all over my bod right out of the shower. If you do find yourself going through this stuff faster than your wallet can handle, you can cut it with a more subtle moisturizer so you can still have the same amazing smell and hydration but make the 3oz tube last more than 3 weeks... (guilty)  If you're not spending the holidays sprawled out on a tropical beach somewhere this year, get this stuff, lather it on EVERYWHERE, lay down and close your eyes... feels like the same thing right? Never know till you try!
AGENT NATEUR DEODORANT
I was a skeptic of natural deodorant for a long time, I tried almost every brand I could get my hands on and then some. "Nah" I said, "it's just deodorant what harm can it do?" Well guess what? Aluminum based deodorant can do A LOT of harm to our precious, beautiful bods. The more and more I read about drugstore deodorant, the more I learned how toxic this stuff that we use EVERYDAY can be for us. I just wanted to scream it from the mountain tops!!!! AT LAST I HAVE FINALLY FOUND A NATURAL DEODORANT THAT CAN GET ME THROUGH A WORKOUT AND STILL LEAVE  ME FEELING FRESH! (Not to mention sparing those poor animals in those evil testing labs for big drugstore brands, but that's for whole other blog post one day) You may think deodorant is a strange gift... but hey, I think anyone would be STOKED to give this gorgeous smelling, uber healthy deodorant a try. Whether it's for yourself or a loved one, I can't recommend this stuff enough!
ECO BROW
Full brows are very much in style right now which is rad, you know when full brows weren't in style? 2007, and probably all the years prior to that. For some god awful reason in 6th grade, I decided to shave the inner edges of my poor, full, beautiful brows, thinking that they looked slimmer and more tamed shaved.... Boy was I wrong... 10 years later and the inner edges of my brows are still pretty sparse. Eco Brow is the first brow pomade that I've used that leaves my brows looking even and natural and not super harsh and dark. The colour is super build-able, you can go as light or as dark as you'd like! With 6 awesome shades, I guarantee there is a shade for absolutely every brow lover
CHRISTOPHE ROBIN SCALP SALT SCRUB:
There's just something about being able to physically feel a product working it's magic as you use it. That's exactly what this detoxifying shampoo enriched with sea salt does, it soothes while removing access oil/buildup as well as reducing any itchiness after colouring your hair. Completely plant derived, this stuff is free from parabens, silicon and phthalates. It's great for absolutely every hair type under the sun, especially for someone looking for a product that will leave their hair feeling hydrated, rebalanced and healthy

Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt by Christophe Robin – (How much does it cost to be a hero? $73.)

Without doubt, this product has changed my life. Every 10-14 days I use the scrub in place of my regular shampoo to relieve my hair of product build up. After use, my hair is fluffier, brighter in colour and very clean. This product alone can be a confidence boost. The scrub is a fantastic gift for someone who uses products like argon oil and cream-based hair products regularly. No BS, the purifying scrub is extremely effective and everyone needs it.

Yin Powder – (Everyone deserves wellness!!!) $150

Adaptogens are in the spotlight lately— and for good reason. Choosing the right adaptogen to suit your routine can be overwhelming. Don’t fret, we carry one that does it all; Sun Potion’s Yin Powder. Yin Powder is an energetic blend composed of wide variety of organic and wild harvested herbs. It’s formulated to support women’s health, targeting mental clarity, hormonal balance, emotional equilibrium and cellular regeneration (a.k.a. radiance). In effect, adding Yin Powder it to a smoothie, matcha or almond milk latte might give you super powers.

*Note: We don't have Yin Power in stock but we have Ashwagandha and it's amazing!

Ilia Highlight – Polka Dots & Moonbeams $42

This is the kind of product that if Ilia were to ever discontinue it *knock on wood*, I would stock up. This is the most reliable product in my makeup bag; if all else fails, at least my highlight is a sure thing. The Ilia illuminator is an easy to apply, cream-based formula. Known for restoring vitality in the skin, the illuminator has some fun ingredients in it like orange peel wax, rosehip oil and avocado oil. It’s a staple if you’re aiming for an effortless, healthy glow (no sparkles, no glitter). For gift giving purposes, polka dots & moonbeams has light undertones and is most suitable for fairer complexions; while cosmic dancer has warm, gold undertones. Further comments? It is unparalleled. Also, it lasted me ten months of everyday use. I could write an essay about this product.

Omorovicza - Queen of Hungary Mist, $110

Are you shopping for a makeup enthusiast who has it all? Omorovicza’s Queen of Hungary Mist would be a lovely gift for this person. As India puts it, this is the face mist you didn't know you needed. The neroli and rose scented mist is inspired by the formula used way back when by the ever-so-fair Queen of Hungary. This face mist acts as a setting spray or a post-cleanse toner and is a seamless edition to a skincare and makeup routine. I have a very hard time walking past my Queen of Hungary Mist without spritzing it on my face.

Maybe you’ve seen her products while scrolling through your Instagram feed, in a photo of some cool fashion editor’s bathroom counter, or maybe you’ve read a quote of hers in the beauty section of French Vogue. Maybe you’ve never even heard her name at all. Either way, you probably have a few questions.

“How do I pronounce her name?”

“Why haven’t I heard of this line before?”

and most importantly,

“What do her products do and which ones are right for my skin?”

Well friends, today you are in luck because I am about to drop some serious skincare knowledge.

First things first, her last name is pronounced “see-oh-ko”. This seems counterintuitive because you’d think it would be pronounced more Italian, like “chee-oh-ko”, but alas, this is how she was introduced to me when I met her in Paris (btw, she is the most lovely), so this is how I will pronounce her name.

Why haven’t you heard of this Joelle Ciocco before? Probably because, even though it’s been around for thirty years, the line is incredibly hard to get— but you can get it from me! Also, these products seriously work, to the point where you want to shout Mme Ciocco’s name from roof tops, but also tell no one at all for fear that others will be onto you. Once you start using this skincare, it feels as though you have discovered some kind of break in the space-time continuum where you began your life as an average, boring North American and you have emerged transformed into a cool, elusive French girl who subsists entirely off of coffee and baguette with cold, unsalted butter, yet has a perfect body, has hair that is dirty in a chic way and not a dirty way, lives in a state of perpetual endearing/mysterious ennui and, most importantly, has glowing skin. Joelle Ciocco is a French girl's best-kept secret.

I know, by now you’re probably like “India, SIGN. ME. UP.”

But then you look at the bottles of product. The labels are mostly in French, with ambiguous, indirect English translations that don’t necessarily even describe what it is the products do. This is part of the allure, trust me. Don’t worry, though. This is why I’m here.

Let me to break down her most iconic products for you. In a later instalment, I’ll dive a little deeper into masks, serums and oils, but for now, let’s just start with the basics.

First off, Joelle Ciocco is all about being incredibly gentle to the skin. If the skin is treated with care, it will balance and regenerate itself and do everything that skin is supposed to do, which is impart a glow so dewy and bright that it can be seen from space. Exaggeration? Perhaps, but who cares. In order to achieve said balance, there must be no harsh exfoliation, but instead, a serious focus on cleansing in a way that doesn’t strip the skin of any of its natural oils. Joelle believes in double-cleansing— first to wash away any makeup, second to get down deep into the pores— but only at night, when it is necessary after a long day of exposing yourself to the dirty, dirty outside world. You then follow with a toner, which ensures that you’ve properly removed all the makeup/grime/pollution from your face, and balances the pH of the skin. In the morning, no cleansing is needed. Instead, begin your routine with the aforementioned toner to gently wipe off any product from the night before and to “wake up” your complexion.

Okay, are you ready? I’m ready.

Cleansers

Of all of the cleansers, this is one covers the most ground. It can be used on your body, hair and face. However, it is not wildly powerful, which makes it not so ideal for removing makeup, but perfect for your gym bag. After all, no one should be sweating in heavy makeup anyways. Use this cleanser post-workout to eliminate the chance of clogged pores. If you’re feeling generous, let your boyfriend use it too because it is a great cleanser for men.

Sensitive Cleansing Milk

This cleanser should be the staple of everyone’s skincare routines. It is suited for all skin types and concerns. If you don’t typically wear face makeup or sunscreen, this is the only cleanser you need. Use it twice in a row in the evenings and you’re good to go.

Oh man, this stuff is my absolute favourite. This cleanser is the souped up version of the sensitive cleansing milk. It is intended for removing makeup and sunscreen prior to cleansing with the SCM. It is rich without being greasy, leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean without your face feeling tight. Maybe I’m uncool, but I look forward to washing my face with this every night.

This cleanser is not intended for removing makeup. It is meant for the second cleanse, after the SCM or the GCC. The name is a pretty good indication of what it does as it is meant for oily or blemish-prone skin. Use it as a cleanser (duh) or dab it on pimples and leave it overnight as a targeted spot treatment.

Toners

I know, you might think that toners are old school. In many ways they are, but that’s what I love about them. Toners feel like easy luxury and unlike the ones of the past, Joelle’s do not contain alcohol. Like the wise Patrick Bateman once said, alcohol dries your skin out, which can make you look old.

Perfecting Lotion

This is the go-to toner that suits almost every skin type. Oh man, does it feel nice. To be honest, it doesn’t require that much explanation. Use it first thing in the morning, before applying the rest of your products and then use it at night, after cleansing.

Botanical Lotion

This toner is intended for blemish-prone, oily skin, or skin with enlarged pores. It is best when paired with the Secret Clear Foaming Cleanser.

“Specific Lotions”

You’re probably wondering what these are. To be honest, I wonder sometimes, too. These are meant to be used after your toner, in the morning. They act as a magical protective shield that keeps the bad stuff out and your French girl allure locked in deep down inside you.

Skin Defensive

This is your protection against all of the nasty things you experience in day to day urban life. Wear it every morning, rest easy knowing that there is another layer between your skin and the outside world.

Thermoregulatory Lotion

This is the ultimate pairing for sunscreen. Use this instead of the skin defensive, all year round if you live in a hot climate, or in the summer when the temperatures have raised. This essentially helps to control the temperature of your skin when it is hot out. Pretty cool, right?

Moisturizers

There are quite a few moisturizers, but let’s stick to the most basic one for now.

Sensitive Skin Cream

This is the ultimate gentle skin lotion that suits almost everyone. It hydrates without being greasy and can be used on even the most sensitive complexions.

Eye Cream

This is the lighter of the eye creams that is great for under eye circles and puffiness.

Intensive Eye Care

The more heavy duty of the eye creams. This can be layered over top of Eyelisse or it can be used on its own to target dry or mature skin.

Still confused? Let me break it down even simpler for you.

Okay, go forth and introduce yourself to the cult that is Joelle Ciocco skincare. Focus on taking the time to properly double cleanse each evening. Be gentle! Now is not the time to be bringing out the Clarisonic. If you need some help, I highly recommend this video.

For your skincare-related pleasure, I have assembled a little Joelle Ciocco Introductory Kit that features her most important essentials. You can find it here

You’ll know it’s working when people start asking you how you’ve gotten your glow. It’s up to you if you tell them your secret or not.*

*For real though, if you could please tell them how and where you got your skincare that would be great.
